Respectful Roots Reading Club - Why is Respect Important

  • Norwood Library 198 Summit Street Norwood, NJ, 07648 United States (map)

Steps to Respect Literary Unit reinforces concepts from the anti-bullying program through the book Crash. Crash by Jerry Spinelli is about Crash Coogan is a seventh-grade football star who seems to have it all: speed, confidence, and popularity. He bullies Penn Webb, a quirky, vegetarian, peace-loving classmate who doesn’t fight back. As the story unfolds, Crash is forced to reconsider what truly matters—especially as his relationship with his grandfather deepens and he witnesses Penn’s quiet strength. Through a series of emotional shifts, Crash begins to grow, showing empathy and learning that being a true friend is more important than being cool.

Students will receive a gift card for attending 6 out of 8 sessions.
